A Place to Start…

One day you wake up and there you are, unhappy with the reflection in the mirror. You ask yourself, “how did I get here?”, “how did I let it get this bad?”, and you find yourself filled with anger, frustration, and sadness. No one deserves to feel like that.

The first thing to know is – you are not alone. We all live having the best intentions to help others, be a good parent, be a good employee, volunteer, be a good spouse; but at the end of the day, there is little left for yourself. Life is just so busy today!

So how do you find a balance in life and take care of you in the process? It starts with deciding to take action and find a way to incorporate everything that’s important to you but to also learn to let go of what isn’t serving you. You can’t make time for something new if your stressed with everything you feel you have to do.

Let’s start by taking out a pen and paper or open up your notes app in your phone and ask yourself a few questions:

  1. Who are the people that are important to me and fill me up when I am with them?
  2. Who is taking energy from you and you need to let go of so you can make time for you and caring for yourself? This is a tough one for a lot of people but you can’t be with the people who are important to you if your energy is going to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
  3. What things are you doing in your life that bring you fulfillment?
  4. What things are you doing out of obligation that are not serving you or your future? This is also a tough one because it is usually tied with guilt, but it will serve you to let go of situations that cause you stress.
  5. How many hours in a week are you taking care of you? Make a list of exactly what you did to take care of you. Do this so you can really see how well you are caring for yourself.

The reason you start here is so you can map out how to let go and make space for the important things in your own life.

We all know exercise is good for us, but seriously, what’s the point if you can’t lose weight right? Wrong.

Exercise is not about the workouts, exercise is you taking care of you. It is a couple hours a week that will not only help you feel good post workout, but also help you feel better all day and into the next day.

Exercise has this magical effect on the human body, and those who exercise regularly can back up that statement. It is especially profound for those who are struggling to get through life when the kids are young or work is stressful or life is throwing you challenging, that is when you need it the most.

Exercise literally lights up the brain. You make better decisions and are in a more rational place after you workout. Imagine if you went through life in a decreased stress state and instead in a happy state? Your life would look a lot different.

But I am afraid to start? Who isn’t afraid to try something new? Who isn’t nervous about being vulnerable? We all hard, it’s part of being human. What I can tell you about Inner Fit is that it is one of the most awesome places to start your fitness journey and use it as time for you.

It’s not about the workout, it’s about a few hours a week for you. A long term client Mel always says she gets excited to get into the car and come to class because it’s her time and while she loves her family, it’s time she gets for herself 3-4 hours a week. Mel has lost 60lbs and kept it off for over 5 years.

The Results will come! When you make the time for yourself a few hours a week with something that is productive such as a fitness, there is a greater payoff and that is slowly seeing a body you are loving that is healthier and happier. The thing to remember is it doesn’t happen over night or in a month, it takes 6-12 months to see substantial changes but as we have seen at Inner Fit, the slower you lose it, the easier it is to keep it off.

Where do you go from here? Come visit us. We want to help you. Inner Fit is a friendly facility where our members love to meet new members. Start with 2 hours a week. It’s really that simple. Give us a call 6043151656 or text or email and let me help you get started. Visit us online Download the Inner Fit Studios app and try our one week free trial.

I hope you get to look in the mirror one day and have positive thoughts, because that’s what you deserve because you are awesome and you deserve to feel that way. #startwithinnerfit

Oh the Ah-Ha Moments in Vegas!

They say change happens in a moment. We can struggle for a long time and then you hear, see, or experience something that changes everything. This was my recent experience in Las Vegas at the 2017 Idea Fit Conference.

I headed to Vegas filled with confusion, frustration, nearing burnout, and a sense of needing to step away from my business and came home with clarity and a feeling of excitement to be back in the studio.

Over five days I attended a variety of workshops and courses from marketing to spinning to step classes. I decided to have a well balanced approach because I wanted to bring new ideas to the classes but also learn how to grow my business.   Continue reading →

Stepping Outside of Comfort

They say the best things in life are experienced outside your comfort zone and at Inner Fit, we believe this is true because we see the changes in our members when they try something they never thought possible.

This past weekend, two of our coaches and one of our members stepped outside their comfort zones and hit the road in the Penticton  Granfondo (160 km) and the Velocefondo (126 km) cycling event.

In order to complete such a huge distance with hills and heat, you must train. Training means going on long rides each week, strength training, and balancing life in-between.

Over the past 6 months the studio watched as coaches Tania and Breanna hit the road and increased their mileage. There were good rides and bad rides. There was a moment where we thought it was over because sometimes in training you hit a wall but with the right support and motivation you can bounce back.

Denise, a long time road rider was also there to encourage and help our coaches take on something that was new to both of them.

On Sunday July 9, all three hit the road hard and kicked ass. Not only did they rock it by stepping outside their comfort zone; but you could see that they discovered a love for racing along the way.

Life is filled with challenges but like everyone else we always have a choice to literally get back on the bike or walk through the studio doors or simply show up. Riding 126 kms and 160kms is not something you simply hop on and bike a do. You work for months adding mileage and finding the time to train.

With every ride, they pushed their comfort zone a little further. Something to remember is, stepping outside of our comfort zones doesn’t have to be all or nothing, it is little increments at a time that lead to the big moments like the finish line of a race.

Stepping outside of your comfort is a challenge when you life is busy. Tania, Breanna, and Denise are all hard working  moms but they made it happen because they made the choice to make it happen. They put all their doubts to the side and danced with their fears, instead of letting the fears win, and that’s what got them to the finish line with pride in themselves.

As humans, we create obstacles in our minds. Have you ever noticed that the most unlikeliest person is always the one who succeeds and often the ones who had to jump through the biggest hoops to get there, yet the one with everything on their side just couldn’t pull it together?

Why does this happen? Because life is filled with choices. We can choose to show up. We can choose to train. We can choose to not let our heads get in our way. However, you can also choose to stay in bed, skip a workout, eat an unhealthy meal, make excuses and tell yourself a story as to why something is too hard to try. But every morning you wake up you get a choice, it is up to you to decide what you want and how you are going to make it happen.

Life is beautiful outside your comfort zone. It is where your happiness is waiting to find you. When you accomplish something that challenges you both mentally and physically you become filled with a sense of pride and a smile that says it all.

Dream big for yourself. Find something that excites you. Simply show up because sometimes showing up is the hardest thing you have to do.

A huge congrats to these three beautiful ladies for demonstrating that if you really want something that time, money, fears, and schedules cannot stop you.

Let the Dragon Boat Festival Begin!

One of the things that I love most about fitness is the ability to transfer what you do in the studio to what you can accomplish in the real world.

Training for any sport take dedication and patience when learning new skills and several of our Inner Fit members have devoted themselves to the sport of Dragon Boating.

A big congrats to the Dragon Boat crew members from Inner Fit and everyone who competed this weekend! All I can see from the photos are big smiles and I know that means your all in your happy place. Great job ladies!
